THE BEDFORDSHIRE WARLOCK by Patrick R. Field
UNION CITY, NJ, UNITED STATES, January 14, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ — Award-winning author Patrick R. Field has a knack for capturing the essence of small-town life in a quaint New England town, and now he uses that backdrop to take readers on an immersive journey into a shadowy world of buried secrets and supernatural forces during the Salem Witch Trials, unfolding a suspenseful tale of power and self-discovery.
That’s at the heart of his new thriller, THE BEDFORDSHIRE WARLOCK, which this past December was named winner of the Literary Titan Silver Book Award.
“I have always been fascinated by the dark history of The Salem Witch Trials,” Field tells Literary Titan. “What if there were actual witches and warlocks with supernatural powers in colonial America who were the initial cause of the hysteria and became victims themselves in the execution of the innocents?”
The book is not your typical good vs. evil story. Elias Doever, accused of being a warlock by the residents of the Village of Bedfordshire, MA in 1692, is executed via the “ducking chair” into a well of holy water. A force erupts from his chest, killing him and escaping the well.
Three hundred years later, the force from the well, Beladon, contacts Dorian Leeves, a young man with supernatural abilities, and informs him that he possesses the same powers as Elias Doever. Dorian will accomplish his ascension into powers beyond his belief if he can reunite the “three bloods” of Elias Doever, himself, and Beladon.
However, the body is buried in secret unconsecrated ground. Dorian’s new love interest, Toby Blessing, creates complications for his quest to find the skeletal remains of Elias Doever for his ascension.
Dorian must decide whether to abandon his ascension and power or embrace a life with Toby in the present day.
The author’s desire to bring characters to life on the page is inspired by his time as an actor and the people he’s met along the way. When developing characters, he usually has an idea of the destination he wants for each character, but the journey to get there is often written by the character and the environment.
Prairies Book Review calls THE BEDFORDSHIRE WARLOCK “a haunting and unsettling blend of historical horror and supernatural suspense….A chilling exploration of how history haunts, and a reminder that confronting the past may be the only way to break free from its hold. Addictively readable.” -Prairies Book Review
Literary Titan describes the book as “a captivating mix of history, witchcraft, science, and the supernatural, spiced with just enough romance to keep things balanced… This is a gripping, immersive ride, and sometimes, that’s exactly the type of escape readers need.”
Says E. William Podojil on Goodreads, “Patrick has a great way of helping the reader envision the characters and the tension between them. Overall, a really enjoyable story.”
Another Goodreads reader, Gregory Allen writes, “Field paints an exciting story of suspense, passion, and the supernatural. He proves the case to write what you know by beautifully weaving a wonderful gay love story with the paranormal. With so many vivid accounts, one might wonder if Field himself might have been a warlock in another time. Recommended for those obsessed with all things New England, supernatural events, and a sexy gay tale.”
Lea Schizas, author of the A.L.P. Legacy series, says, “The Bedfordshire Warlock is more than just a supernatural M/M fantasy, but a gripping and exhilarating ride filled with the inner perception of vision, magic, and a deep understanding of the human heart.”
THE BEDFORDSHIRE WARLOCK is available on Amazon and other popular retail outlets where books are sold.
